When to go: a month-by-month guide to Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia is a year-round region — but not every place, every month. Monsoon seasons differ by coast and island, so timing can make or break a beach holiday.

October – March: the classic season

This is peak time for Thailand’s Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi), the Maldives and Langkawi in Malaysia — dry, sunny and calm seas. It’s also lovely in northern Vietnam, though Hanoi can feel cool in December and January. Expect higher prices over Christmas, New Year and Indian school holidays.

April – May: hot, and good value

Temperatures peak across the region. It’s a great window for Bali (dry season begins), central and southern Vietnam, and Singapore. Indian summer holidays fall here, so book early.

June – September: choose your coast

Bali is at its best — dry and sunny — and busiest in July and August. Thailand’s Andaman side gets monsoon rain, but the Gulf islands (Koh Samui) stay relatively dry. Singapore and Kuala Lumpur remain good city choices with short showers.
